Reviews: Private tours of Rocamadour & Saint-Cirq-Lapopie from Sarlat

Reviews of excursions from Sarlat
My verdict: a private day in an electric van, 5.0 out of 5 from just two reviews, connecting the Dordogne to the Lot. What matters more than the rating: this excursion does not include the Pech Merle cave. It goes to Rocamadour, with 1 hour 30 minutes of guided tour, then to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie for a self-guided visit. If you book it thinking you’ll see the spotted horses, you’ll be disappointed. If you’re staying in Sarlat and want to visit these two villages without driving, it does the job.

The itinerary, minute by minute

This is one of the rare GetYourGuide descriptions that includes timings—I’ve kept them as is. Pick-up at Sarlat’s Place Pasteur, or in Les Eyzies, Saint-Cyprien, Beynac, Domme, or La Roque-Gageac. One hour’s drive along the Dordogne Valley, with a fifteen-minute stop at a viewpoint. Guided tour of Rocamadour, 1 hour 30 minutes. One-hour lunch break, at your own expense. 1 hour 15 minutes’ drive to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie, 1 hour 30 minutes of free exploration, then 1 hour 30 minutes back. Expect nearly four hours in the van for three hours of visits: that’s the time cost of starting from the Dordogne, and I’d rather you knew beforehand.

The two reviews

Gian Mauro (Italy, March 2026) describes an excellent, friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable driver. Two reviews don’t make a statistic; they simply say that the first two customers were happy with the driver. I’d rather look at the programme, which is precise, and the list of pick-up points, which is long—a sign of an operator who knows their clientele.

For whom

For those who have based their stay in the Dordogne, have already visited Lascaux, and want a day in the Lot without driving. For couples or families, the private option can be shared. If your priority is the cave, this isn’t the right excursion: from Sarlat, you’ll need either a car and a ticket booked through the official ticket office, or to travel to Cahors for the excursion that includes entry. The Pech Merle or Lascaux page explains why the two complement each other, and how to get here gives travel times from Sarlat.

Insider tip

Saint-Cirq-Lapopie is a self-guided visit. If you want to understand the village rather than just photograph it, the private tour of the village is available separately, but it cannot be combined with this day trip as the time on site is too short.

Frequently asked questions

Does this excursion include a visit to the Pech Merle cave?

No, and that’s the key point. The itinerary includes Rocamadour then Saint-Cirq-Lapopie. For the cave, a separate booking is required, explained on the booking & tickets page, or take the tour from Cahors.

Where does pick-up take place?

In Sarlat, at Place Pasteur, or in Les Eyzies, Saint-Cyprien, Beynac, Domme and La Roque-Gageac. The comparison with other private tours is available on private excursions.

Are two reviews enough to decide?

No, and I don’t claim otherwise. What reassures me lies elsewhere: a timed schedule, six pickup points, and a guided tour of Rocamadour included. Compare with the guided tour of Rocamadour alone if you have a car.
